To better support our collective need for proactive and effective biosecurity measures for the management of declared pests across our region, it is proposed to include all freehold (private) properties within the Leschenault Biosecurity Group’s Operational Area (LBG) that are 0.5 hectares or larger in size to be charged a declared pest rate (DPR). At present funding is raised for use in this area by the Declared Pest Rate (DPR) charged to landholders with properties 1 hectare or greater in size that are described as urban farming on the non-rural valuation roll and freehold land on the rural valuation roll maintained under the Valuation of Land Act 1978. Our proposal is to include all freehold properties 0.5 hectare or greater in size for contribution to support area-wide declared pest management with payment of a Declared Pest Rate. This includes properties within the City of Bunbury and the Shires of Capel, Dardanup and northern localities of Donnybrook-Balingup.Click for details of Leschenault Biosecurity Group’s Operational Area
What is the current DPR collected within the LBG operational area and how is it used:
The 2023-2024 DPR charged within the LBG operational area is $49.50/annum for properties 1 – 10 Hectare and $63.05/annum for properties >10 Hectares in size as defined above. The funds collected through the DPR are matched dollar for dollar by the State and provided to LBG for use within our operational area. This funding is provided to the LBG for use to support the management of declared pests on private properties within its operational area. As such, the LBG provides a range of resources to support private landholders in meeting their responsibilities to manage priority declared pests on their private properties.
