Under the Biosecurity and Agriculture Management Act 2007 (BAM Act) the State raises a Declared Pest Rate from landholders in specific areas, and matches the funds raised from the rate dollar-for-dollar. The combined funds are made available to Recognised Biosecurity Groups who provide support to landholders to manage widespread and established declared pests.
The STATE invites public input regarding Declared Pest Rates by midnight, Sunday 1 May 2022
- The Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development (DPIRD) is currently inviting submissions from the public regarding proposed Declared Pest Rates for the upcoming financial year. The State’s Recognised Biosecurity Group (RBG) model is based on a community led and coordinated approach, which is the most effective way to manage widespread and established declared pests.

The Leschenault Biosecurity Group (LBG) is the local Recognised Biosecurity Group for the shires of Capel, Dardanup, northern parts of Donnybrook – Balingup and the City of Bunbury.

LBG is responsible for using funds collected through the Declared Pest Rate (DPR) to support ratepayers within our operational area toward helping them to meet their responsibilities to manage priority declared pests on their property. We do this providing a combination of resources and on-ground services as is most applicable to the issue at hand. Not all ratepayers within our area require our support specifically for their property; however, the use of their contributed DPR funds provides support for promoting and facilitating community-wide awareness and pest management programs towards protecting our beautiful area from significant impact of declared animal and plant pests. The intent is that together, we can more effectively manage widespread and established pests across our operational area, as well as proactively identify and address potential emerging threats.
