The Threatened Species Action Plan: Towards Zero Extinction was announced on 4 October 2022 by the Minister for the Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek. This Plan sets out a pathway for threatened species conservation and recovery over the next 10 years. The government has committed $224.5 million to the Saving Native Species program to boost outcomes for threatened native plants and animals and combat invasive species. The Plan identifies 20 priority places and 110 priority species and will guide recovery actions that will benefit a broad range of threatened species and their habitats.

The Threatened Species Action Plan maps a pathway to recovery for our nation’s threatened wildlife, spanning terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments. We know that Invasive species have a major impact on Australia’s environment, threatening our unique biodiversity and reducing overall species abundance .Their impact includes the loss or alteration of native habitats, the killing of large numbers of native species, extinction of native species, impacts on human health, and escalating economic costs.

It is essential that we all work together to help protect our unique and beautiful environment and threatened flora and fauna. Leschenault Biosecurity Group encourages community members within our operational area to contact us to discuss their concerns, suggestions and to ask for guidance and available resources to help with individual and collective efforts toward a coordinated approach to managing pests – both animals and plants – at a landscape scale across tenure.
